2025–26 Upper Deck Detroit Red Wings Centennial Set: Hobby Checklist Guide
A seven-card Retired Numbers run, signed parallels and multi-player Octopus Ink cards give Red Wings collectors several distinct ways to pursue the Centennial set.
We update this release guide as verified product details develop.

The Retired Numbers cards are a strong starting point for the 2025–26 Upper Deck Detroit Red Wings Centennial Set. Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidstrom, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel and Steve Yzerman occupy cards #194–200. That compact run gives the Centennial checklist a clear collecting project before you branch into autographs, memorabilia or multi-player cards. Upper Deck’s official hobby checklist lists those entries alongside the product’s parallels and inserts.
The first format decision is straightforward. Hobby lists five base cards per pack on its regular Base Set entries. The official retail checklist instead states one complete base set per box. For a collector who wants the base set together, that retail configuration deserves attention. The hobby checklist is the place to explore the documented pack odds and the signed and memorabilia selections discussed here.
Start with the players and the Retired Numbers run
The regular Base Set opens with Lidstrom #1, Valtteri Filppula #2, Jimmy Howard #3 and Patrick Kane #4. Rogie Vachon follows at #5, with John Ogrodnick #6, Jason Woolley #7, Slava Kozlov #8, Tyler Bertuzzi #9 and Tim Cheveldae #10. It is immediately a broader player selection than a single current roster: the appeal is choosing the Red Wings names you want to collect across the Centennial product.
The named base subsets give that selection more shape. Team Leaders includes Marcel Dionne #192 and Yzerman #193, with stated odds of 1:4 h, 1:4 e. Retired Numbers follows with the seven entries below and stated odds of 1:7 h, 1:7 e. Those are group odds; they do not describe the chance of finding Yzerman or Howe individually. Upper Deck’s base-subset rows identify each card’s group and number.
| Retired Numbers card | Player |
|---|---|
| 194 | Terry Sawchuk |
| 195 | Nicklas Lidstrom |
| 196 | Ted Lindsay |
| 197 | Gordie Howe |
| 198 | Alex Delvecchio |
| 199 | Sid Abel |
| 200 | Steve Yzerman |
Yzerman’s adjacent cards show why the subset name is useful. Team Leaders #193 and Retired Numbers #200 are separate targets with different themes. Lidstrom likewise has regular Base Set #1 and Retired Numbers #195. A player collection can include both without treating one as a parallel of the other.
Centennial parallels and Auto Red signatures
The Centennial Parallel entries carry numbering to 100, including Lidstrom #1, Kane #4 and the Retired Numbers cards #195–200. For someone drawn to the Retired Numbers theme, that provides a numbered version of the same player-and-card-number project. The attraction is the combination of the named subset and its limited parallel, rather than a number detached from the card’s subject.
Auto Red Parallel offers a different pursuit. Lidstrom #1 is marked SSP, Vachon #5 is marked SP, and Frank Mahovlich #13 is marked SSP. The autograph rows also include Howard #3, Ogrodnick #6, Woolley #7, Cheveldae #10, Danny DeKeyser #11 and Pius Suter #14. The listed group odds are 1:18 h, 1:18 e. The manufacturer’s parallel rows keep those autograph and short-print markings attached to the exact entries.
For a Lidstrom collector, Base Set #1, Centennial Parallel #1 and Auto Red Parallel #1 make three distinct choices. The Centennial version supplies stated numbering; Auto Red supplies an autograph and an SSP designation. The SSP label does not supply an exact print run, and the group’s 1:18 odds do not make a Lidstrom signature a one-in-18-pack pull.
Motor City Materials: jerseys, patches and Howe’s stick card
Motor City Materials includes Alex DeBrincat MCM-AD, Albert Johansson MCM-AJ, Dylan Larkin MCM-DL and Carter Mazur MCM-CM. Mazur’s entry is marked Rookie and Jsy. Brett Hull MCM-BH, Brendan Shanahan MCM-BS, Chris Chelios MCM-CC and Henrik Zetterberg MCM-HZ are among the jersey entries marked SP. The set’s stated odds are 1:60 h, 1:60 e.
The Motor City Premium Materials group changes both the material and the numbering on particular cards. Chelios MCM-CC and Zetterberg MCM-HZ are patch entries numbered to 10. Mazur MCM-CM and Larkin MCM-DL are patch entries numbered to 25. Gordie Howe MCM-GH is a stick entry numbered to 5. Upper Deck’s memorabilia checklist distinguishes these versions explicitly.
| Card | Player | Motor City Materials | Motor City Premium Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| MCM-CC | Chris Chelios | Jersey, SP | Patch, numbered to 10 |
| MCM-CM | Carter Mazur | Jersey, Rookie | Patch, Rookie, numbered to 25 |
| MCM-DL | Dylan Larkin | Jersey | Patch, numbered to 25 |
| MCM-HZ | Henrik Zetterberg | Jersey, SP | Patch, numbered to 10 |
The repeated MCM codes make the full set name especially useful when choosing a card. A Larkin MCM-DL jersey and his Premium Materials patch share a code, but offer different material and scarcity. Howe’s MCM-GH stands out within the premium selections because its listed material is a stick rather than a patch. The checklist identifies material types; it does not establish game-used provenance.
Octopus Ink puts combinations and inscriptions at the center
The Octopus Ink Inscriptions entries give collectors something specific to look for in addition to a signature. Cheveldae’s entry includes “1992 NHL All-Star,” Tiger Williams OI-TW includes “3,966 PIMS,” Ulf Samuelsson OI-US includes “Ulfie,” and Vaclav Nedomansky OI-VN includes “HHOF ’19.” These entries are marked Auto and numbered to 35. The inscription wording can make the card a more personal collecting choice than a signature alone.
The multi-player cards offer another way to choose. Octopus Ink Duals, numbered to 49, includes Jimmy Carson/Martin Lapointe OID-CL, Marco Kasper/Sebastian Cossa OID-KC and Chris Osgood/Jimmy Howard OID-OH. Octopus Ink Triples, numbered to 25, includes Patrick Kane/Chris Chelios/Mike Modano OIT-KMC and Chris Osgood/Jimmy Howard/Rogie Vachon OIT-OHV. Upper Deck’s Octopus Ink entries list the combinations and numbering.
The Osgood/Howard dual and Osgood/Howard/Vachon triple make an especially clear comparison: one adds a third named signer and has a smaller stated edition. The right choice depends on which combination you want to own. Neither numbering nor the checklist alone establishes an asking price, a sale value or the physical placement of the signatures.
Smash Hits offers a separate insert project
Smash Hits gives the set a numbered insert run apart from the base subsets. Its entries include Bob Probert SH-1, Joe Kocur SH-2, Gerard Gallant SH-3, Justin Abdelkader SH-4, Ted Lindsay SH-5, Darren McCarty SH-6, Reed Larson SH-7 and Dennis Polonich SH-8. The stated odds are 1:10 h, 1:10 e, according to the hobby checklist.
Lindsay is a useful example of how the Centennial set can branch without losing focus. Retired Numbers #196 and Smash Hits SH-5 put him in two different checklist themes. A Retired Numbers collection follows the seven-card group; a Lindsay collection can follow the player into Smash Hits and the documented numbered parallels. That is the product’s strongest collecting feature: several specific routes through Red Wings names, with the set name and card number keeping each target clear.
