Optimus Prime and Starscream get a metallic setting in Dynamite’s 2026 Transformers 40th Anniversary Metal release. The edition revisits 110 Generation 1 designs on metal foil card stock, with creator autographs, micro-etched cards and solid “Living Metal” selections. The exact Metal branding matters: this is the later metallic edition of the anniversary collection. Product announcement and manufacturer preview sheets

The stock changes the G1 presentation

The previews pair the familiar character paintings with black grid backgrounds, colored light effects and the Transformers 40th-anniversary mark. Optimus Prime’s red body stands against a red-and-yellow field, while Starscream is shown against blue and purple. The composition leaves the character as the main subject; the metallic treatment supplies a different physical finish around it.

The manufacturer’s sheet identifies 110 metal foil base cards, eight Micro Etch Metal cards and 18 solid Living Metal cards, divided into nine Gold and nine Silver. These are different card constructions, rather than three names for the same foil parallel. The collection also advertises 40 one-of-one cards.

Four named creators supply signatures

The 16 creator-signed cards name Bob Budiansky, Simon Furman, Ralph Macchio and Jim Salicrup. That gives the autograph program a comics-creator focus beside the character artwork. A signature card connects the collection with a person involved in the Transformers comics, while a metal base card keeps the robot design at the center.

Collector and Blaster formats

The Collector box has 24 five-card packs. The Blaster has five four-card packs and an oversized 5-by-7-inch bonus card. The manufacturer identifies the Collector box with UPC 725130367983 and the Blaster with 725130368010, useful distinctions when comparing anniversary products with similar names.

The Metal edition’s strongest collecting feature is the combination of recognizable G1 art and several tangible finishes: standard metal foil, micro-etching and solid metal. The named creator signatures add a separate autograph pursuit without replacing the appeal of the characters themselves.
