2026 Onyx RIPS Baseball: On-Card Autos and Prism Playmakers
Nick Kurtz, Leo De Vries, Kevin McGonigle and Konnor Griffin give RIPS a prospect-driven identity, with open signature panels and a separate Prism Playmakers chase.
We update this release guide as verified product details develop.

2026 Onyx RIPS Baseball makes room for the autograph. The standard card design sets an action photograph above a broad, pale signature panel, while Prism Playmakers wraps the player in a more colorful angular background. Nick Kurtz, Leo De Vries, Kevin McGonigle and Konnor Griffin give the preview recognizable collecting targets across those designs. Onyx advertises on-card signatures and seven autograph cards per box. 2026 release details
The release has a compact pack format: two cards per pack, sixteen packs per box and four boxes per case. That is a 32-card box configuration, with autographs forming a substantial part of its identity. RIPS gives that small stack two clear visual directions: the standard autograph layout and the more elaborate Prism Playmakers treatment.
The autograph panel gives the base design its purpose
The preview's standard design uses diagonal bands around the player photograph, then opens into the signature area below. The Eduardo Quintero example shows blue ink running across that pale lower section. The Billy Carlson Black Autograph preview shifts toward gray and black, while Leo De Vries' Gold Autograph uses a gold-colored surround. Those treatments change the presentation without abandoning the underlying layout.
That consistency helps a player-focused collection. The action photograph and signature retain their own space, so a parallel can feel like a different edition of the same card rather than an unrelated design. For collectors who care about autograph placement, the broad lower panel is a more meaningful detail than a general promise of premium cards. The signature is central to the card's composition.
Onyx gives the Base Autograph numbering as /50–150, with Black Autographs /5 and Gold Autographs 1/1. The exact Base Autograph denominator varies by card. Black and Gold turn the same signature-led layout into much smaller numbered editions, while the unautographed base cards provide a separate way to collect the design.
Prism Playmakers gives Griffin and McGonigle a different look
Prism Playmakers is the most visually distinct family in the preview. McGonigle appears against a blue faceted background, Kurtz in a black treatment and Griffin against gold. The photograph occupies more of the card's composition, and the autograph crosses a pale band over the lower image. A dark player-name bar anchors the bottom. It is a sharper, more densely layered presentation than the standard base design.
The McGonigle example is especially useful for understanding that difference: the blue background and bright signature band separate the hitter from the surrounding pattern. Griffin's gold preview uses the fielding photograph and warm background to create another collecting emphasis. These are illustrated product examples, not evidence that the shown one-of-one has been pulled or is available for sale.
The pack-out lists Prism Playmakers Blue at /25–50, Black at /5 and Gold at 1/1. The pictured McGonigle Blue example is labeled /25, within that broader Blue range. Onyx has not supplied pack odds for Prism Playmakers, so the numbering describes the editions rather than the chance of finding one.
A prospect-centered lineup with more than one autograph route
The announced lineup includes Kurtz and De Vries alongside Carlson, Pedro Ramirez and Jonny Farmelo, with McGonigle and Griffin highlighted for Prism Playmakers. That spread gives the release several player-collection entry points. A Kurtz collector can compare the standard layout with the illustrated Black Prism treatment; a Griffin collector has the Gold Prism preview as a concrete example of the product's most limited advertised tier.
The broader product announcement also names Paul Skenes, Jesus Made, Mike Sirota and Luis Pena, and includes dual autographs, inscriptions and autographed relic cards. Those expand the release beyond the single-player signatures in the standard preview. They are additional chases within RIPS, rather than a dual-autograph or relic allocation for every box. Additional release features
A full final checklist will connect each player with specific autograph and insert versions. The current examples already show why that matters: Kurtz has two quite different pictured treatments, and McGonigle's blue Prism design emphasizes the action photograph as well as the ink. The next checklist details will show how widely those collecting paths extend across the rest of the lineup.
Boxes and the October release window
Onyx gives an early October 2026 release window. Retailers are less consistent about the exact day: Dave & Adam's lists October 9, while Columbia Sports Cards lists October 14. Both list an individual box at $199.95. Columbia describes the seven autographs as a box average, while Onyx advertises seven per box. The manufacturer's stated format is clear; the exact release day remains unsettled across the preorder listings. Dave & Adam's preorder, Columbia product details
Onyx identifies itself as an MLBPA licensee. That player-association license is distinct from MLB team licensing, and the preview cards use city identifiers beneath the player names. The product's visual identity rests on its photographs, autograph placement and parallel backgrounds rather than official team marks.
For collectors drawn to prospect autographs, RIPS' strongest case is visible in the cards: open signature space in the standard design, a different photographic treatment in Prism Playmakers, and Black /5 and Gold 1/1 tiers to pursue for a chosen player. The final checklist will sharpen those collecting paths; the preview already gives them a recognizable form.
