2026 Upper Deck CFL hobby box featuring Nathan Rourke, with six cards per pack and 16 packs per box.

Nathan Rourke and Trey Vaval make a particularly good pair of faces for 2026 Upper Deck CFL Football. Rourke won the CFL's 2025 Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian awards. Vaval took Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player. Upper Deck puts both into its autograph previews, giving this release a quarterback with a landmark season and a return specialist who made a habit of changing games.

Around them is a compact 100-card set, divided into 80 regular base cards and 20 Star Rookies. The release arrived August 19, 2026, with 16 six-card hobby packs and an average of two autographs per box. Its main attractions are easy to follow: full-height football photographs, the returning Star Rookies treatment and numbered versions of the players already on the checklist.

Rourke and Vaval give the autograph chase a story

Rourke's autograph parallel belongs to base card #67. The preview shows him preparing to throw in BC's black uniform, with the blue signature crossing a pale panel above the nameplate. The orange stripes, black jersey and gold lower trim keep the Lions' colors central to the card. There is still enough of his throwing stance visible to make the photograph part of its appeal.

His 2025 season supplies the reason to care beyond the signature. The CFL's awards announcement credits Rourke with 5,290 passing yards and 31 touchdown passes. A 2026 card follows that double-award campaign, making it a satisfying piece of the story for a Rourke or BC collection.

Vaval's preview is Star Rookies #100, the final card in the base numbering. Winnipeg blue and gold surround an action photograph of him carrying the ball, with his blue signature above the large Star Rookies title. That image suits a player whose 2025 season included four return touchdowns and 2,266 return yards. The card gives that award-winning debut a place at the end of the Star Rookies checklist.

The final Upper Deck checklist contains 64 regular-base autograph cards and 13 Star Rookies autographs. Both Rourke and Vaval are included. They sit in different autograph groups, with hobby odds of 1:10 packs for the regular-base group and 1:34 for Star Rookies. Those are group odds, rather than the chance of pulling either particular player.

Star Rookies brings a different look to the final 20 cards

The Star Rookies section runs from Jaydon Grant #81 to Vaval #100. Its large stacked title gives these cards a stronger graphic identity than the quieter veteran nameplates. On Devin Veresuk #98, the white lettering sits over a black-and-gold Hamilton uniform, while curved stripes along the bottom carry the team name. The player remains the largest element, but the rookie designation is unmistakable.

The neighboring previews show how much the parallel treatment can change that design. Derek Slywka #83 Deluxe /250 uses bright turquoise lettering and lower stripes against Toronto's light-blue uniform. Keelan White #85 High Gloss /10 takes the same layout into gold and red around an Ottawa photograph. Slywka's version feels especially coherent because the cool foil treatment and uniform work together; White's uses the warmer frame to pull the black jersey forward.

These are manufacturer design previews, shown in Upper Deck's promotional sheets through Dave & Adam's. The final checklist supplies the card identities and numbering. It lists the ordinary Star Rookies group at 1:1 hobby pack, with Gold Star Rookies at 1:4. That gives the rookie section a regular presence in a hobby opening, alongside the less frequent numbered and signed versions.

Gold changes the finish; the numbered parallels change the chase

The veteran design leaves the upper part of the card largely to the photograph. Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund's Montreal preview has a narrow silver-and-red nameplate beneath his white uniform. Kenny Lawler's Gold #68 changes the lower bands and Upper Deck logo to gold, a natural companion to Hamilton's yellow pants and black helmet. It is a relatively restrained parallel: the football photograph remains the attraction.

Dedrick Mills' UD Exclusives #62 /100 adds a named parallel strip and serial numbering to the Calgary card. The red-and-white uniform and red lower panel make the team connection immediate. That provides a useful contrast with Lawler's unnumbered Gold: both alter the finish, while UD Exclusives also establishes a specific numbered edition.

Across the regular base and Star Rookies sections, the numbered ladder is Deluxe /250, UD Exclusives /100, Purple /49 and High Gloss /10. A Rourke collector can follow #67 through those four levels; a Vaval collector can do the same with #100. Purple appears in the final manufacturer checklist even though the advance retailer breakdown omits it.

What the 16-pack hobby box offers

The hobby configuration totals 96 cards, with advertised averages of two autographs, eight numbered cards and 22 Gold parallels. Upper Deck repeats those figures on its promotional box-break sheet. The two autographs can come from the regular-base or Star Rookies groups; the final checklist does not give every base player an autograph counterpart.

For pack odds, use the final checklist: Star Rookies are 1:1, and their autographs are 1:34. The advance sales description still shows 1:2 and 1:36 respectively. Keeping those figures straight matters when comparing this box with its early advertising. Box averages describe production, rather than a fixed result for every opening.

Rourke's signature, Vaval's award-season rookie card and the turquoise Slywka Deluxe each offer a different reason to enjoy this set. The first carries the quarterback story, the second puts a spectacular return season into the Star Rookies design, and the third shows how well a modest change of color can suit a specific uniform. That is where this CFL release is most convincing: recognizable football, with the player and team still doing the heavy lifting.
