2025/26 Topps Merlin UCC: Sticker-Album Roots, European Nights
Two regional preorder openings start Merlin’s next UEFA chapter. Its appeal runs from sticker-album borders to Saka in stained glass and Salah in gold filigree; the new season’s full contents are still to come.
We update this release guide as verified product details develop.

Merlin is the soccer-card brand that can put an old sticker album and a stained-glass window in the same conversation. Its rounded frames, colorful borders and fantasy-flavored inserts have given European football a distinctive cardboard home. The next chapter is 2025/26 Topps Merlin UEFA Club Competitions, with preorders opening Monday, November 2, 2026.
The announcement gives us a date to circle and two regional opening times. The fuller collecting story comes from the editions that built Merlin’s identity: rookies alongside European greats, traditional album cues alongside elaborate artwork, and a range of formats whose contents have differed meaningfully. Here is the new preorder schedule, followed by the cards and design choices that explain why another Merlin season is worth watching.
November 2 brings two preorder openings
Topps’ US preorder opens at 11 a.m. Eastern / 8 a.m. Pacific. The UK preorder opens at 1 p.m. GMT, which is 8 a.m. Eastern / 5 a.m. Pacific. The UK opening therefore comes three hours before the US opening. November’s standard-time conversion matters here: the US event is at 4 p.m. GMT, rather than the UK store’s 1 p.m. Topps US announcement · Topps UK announcement
These are regional preorder openings. Topps has yet to announce the physical release or shipping date, price, complete checklist, box configuration or autograph guarantees for 2025/26 Merlin UCC. The card examples and box details below belong to 2024/25, and show the series’ recent character while we await the new edition’s full reveal.
The album is still part of the design
Merlin’s connection to sticker collecting is deliberate. In Topps’ discussion of the 2023/24 edition, product director Dillon Stambaugh described a design brief rooted in the brand’s 1990s and early-2000s albums: angular borders, gradients, goal nets and packaging colors. He also explained how changing the box color from season to season helped collectors remember a particular edition. Topps’ Merlin brand history
You can see that album influence in the 2024/25 Désiré Doué base-card preview. The PSG forward sits inside a blue frame, with his name and position in the lower panel and the club crest overlapping the corner. The design gives the photograph plenty of room while keeping the framing strong enough to recognize across a page of cards. The Merlin wordmark and curved corners do a lot of the work.
That combination is the part I want the next Merlin to preserve: a card that feels related to football’s album tradition even when its surface and parallels belong to the modern hobby. Merlin has a recognizable visual vocabulary before the rarest insert enters the picture.
Saka’s stained glass and Salah’s gold filigree
The 2024/25 Renaissance Bukayo Saka preview takes the fantasy theme much further. Turquoise, pink and yellow panes surround Saka’s red Arsenal shirt, with heavy dark outlines making the whole card resemble stained glass. His photograph remains the focal point, but the illustration supplies the atmosphere. It is an insert with a strong reason to exist beyond another colored border.
Renaissance’s 2024/25 checklist contains 20 cards, putting Saka in a group that also includes Johan Cruyff, Lionel Messi, Lamine Yamal and Sir Alex Ferguson. That mix makes the subset a small illustrated history of European football, with different generations and even a manager sharing the same visual stage. Topps’ 2024/25 checklist spotlight
Elite Society Mohamed Salah, also from 2024/25, offers a different mood. The gold-and-black frame is packed with fine ornamental lines, while Liverpool’s crest and the UEFA Champions League emblem sit beneath Salah. His red shirt cuts sharply through the darker setting. Beside Saka’s bright Renaissance card, it shows how much range Merlin can find inside its ornate, old-world theme.
Elite Society was a 15-card insert in that edition. The difference between these two previews is what makes the next insert reveal interesting: Merlin can take the same footballing world toward colorful illustration or a much more formal portrait. Seeing the actual 2025/26 designs will tell us which direction this season takes.
Merlin’s rookie history reaches beyond one club
Topps’ brand history points to Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Jamal Musiala among the players with Merlin rookie cards. Stambaugh also described an effort to find young players beyond the most obvious club checklists, using Arda Güler at Fenerbahçe and Francesco Camarda at Milan as examples. Those are historical examples of the series’ approach, rather than a player announcement for this release. Merlin’s rookie-collecting background
The 2024/25 UCC base set covered 200 subjects across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. That wider European canvas gives Merlin a different collecting shape from a domestic-league set. For the coming checklist, the interesting question is how Topps balances that breadth with the rookies and established stars chosen for the more elaborate inserts.
Why the format reveal matters
Last season’s boxes show why Merlin collectors need the exact format breakdown. 2024/25 Hobby had 18 packs of four cards and one guaranteed autograph. Topps also described Hobby-exclusive Match Ball Signatures and Dual Match Ball Signatures, combining on-card autographs with match-ball relics. Its seven-pack Value box instead emphasized Mini Diamond Refractors, a numbered parallel and the exclusive Merlin’s Gamers insert. Topps’ 2024/25 format guide
Those differences put specific cards in specific collecting paths. A Merlin’s Gamers collector and a Match Ball Signatures collector were looking at different formats of the same season. The 2025/26 format announcement will establish where its own inserts, signatures and parallels live; the older box breakdown gives us useful context for reading it.
For now, November 2 starts the next Merlin UCC preorder, with the UK opening three hours ahead of the US. What has me interested is the combination already visible in its lineage: Doué’s album-like framing, Saka’s stained glass, Salah’s gilded portrait and a rookie history that stretches across European clubs. The next reveal gets to show how 2025/26 adds to that particular story.
