2026 Topps Chrome MLS: Messi Ink, Debut Patches and Club Pride
On-card Messi and Beckham signatures headline the September 10 release, with 37 Debut Patch Autographs exclusive to Hobby and new Rhythm of the Game inserts built around club colors.
We update this release guide as verified product details develop.
A Lionel Messi autograph signed directly on the card is a pretty good reason to stop sorting the base stack. 2026 Topps Chrome MLS has that kind of centerpiece, with Messi and David Beckham in MLS Renaissance Autographs, plus Debut Patch Autographs that connect a player's first MLS appearance to a card you can hold. Topps release preview
First Chrome MLS appearances for Antoine Griezmann and Robert Lewandowski add another reason to follow this edition. The 200-card base set spans current players, rising talent and past stars, while new Rhythm of the Game inserts put club colors into flowing, layered designs. For price context, Checklist Insider reported Topps' August presale at $119.99 for Hobby and $29.99 for Value. Those remain historical preorder prices; Topps' sold-out Hobby page does not provide a current offer. Presale coverage, Topps Hobby availability
Messi and Beckham give Renaissance its pull
MLS Renaissance Autographs, available in Hobby and Mania, includes rare on-card signatures from Messi and Beckham. Topps autograph preview, Renaissance checklist
Chrome Dual Autographs, found in Hobby and Value, includes Son Heung-Min with Denis Bouanga and Thierry Henry with Bradley Wright-Phillips. The LAFC pairing brings together the two attackers who scored 18 consecutive club goals in 2025. The Red Bulls card recalls their 2014 partnership, when Henry assisted eight of Wright-Phillips' 27 regular-season goals. Son also appears with Kim Min-Jae in National Pairings Dual Autographs, representing South Korea. That pairing, NPDA-SK, is exclusive to Hobby. National Pairings checklist
Debut Patches carry a specific moment
The MLS Debut Patch program began in 2024: newcomers wore the patch on their debut jersey, after which it was removed and sent to Topps for a one-of-one card. That connection to an identifiable first appearance is the point of the format. MLS explains the Debut Patch program
The 2026 Chrome checklist has 37 MLS Debut Patch Autographs, exclusive to Hobby, including Mateo Silvetti, Aiden Hezarkhani, Justin Ellis and Wessam Abou Ali. Official Debut Patch checklist
Griezmann, Lewandowski and three rookies to know
Griezmann's first Chrome MLS appearance is represented by base card #152 with Orlando City SC. Lewandowski appears in Chrome Autographs as CA-RL with Chicago Fire FC. His first Chrome MLS billing should not be confused with a first career rookie card. Topps' first-appearance announcement, official checklist
| Player | Base rookie | Wonderkids | Rhythm of the Game |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mateo Silvetti — Inter Miami CF | #40 | WK-9 | RG-27 |
| Adri Mehmeti — New York Red Bulls | #87 | WK-1 | RG-21 |
| Aiden Hezarkhani — Real Salt Lake | #99 | WK-3 | RG-19 |
Wonderkids and Rhythm of the Game are both exclusive to Hobby and Value. Silvetti and Hezarkhani also connect this rookie group to the Hobby Debut Patch checklist. Official base, insert and patch checklist
Rhythm of the Game is our insert pick
Rhythm of the Game is a new 30-card insert. Its layered player photography, flowing shapes and large lettering make club colors part of the composition; that combination makes it our design pick for this release. The checklist includes Son at RG-2, Griezmann at RG-18 and Bouanga at RG-30, alongside the rookies above. Topps' design interview, Rhythm checklist
Patriotic Passion also joins the lineup, while Wonderkids, Pearlers and Helix return. Helix is a markedly tougher Hobby pull than Rhythm: 1:3,360 packs versus 1:8. Topps insert preview, official odds
For Zlatan collectors, Hobby also contains The Grail, card G-8. It is part of a nine-card Ibrahimović continuity set spread across multiple Topps releases. Official checklist, Topps explains The Grail
What the odds mean for the chase
These are pack odds for the named card category, not the chance of pulling a particular player. Parallel versions have their own rows. Because the formats contain different numbers of packs, the columns are not equal-cost or per-box comparisons. Official Topps odds sheet
| Card category | Hobby packs | Value packs | Mania packs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rhythm of the Game | 1:8 | 1:6 | — |
| Shadow Etch | 1:243 | 1:787 | — |
| Pearlers | 1:373 | 1:2,622 | 1:540 |
| Helix | 1:3,360 | 1:26,219 | 1:270 |
| MLS Renaissance Autographs | 1:2,902 | — | 1:624 |
| MLS Debut Patch Autographs | 1:17,331 | — | — |
A dash means that exact row has no odds for the format. For example, Mania has a separate Shadow Etch Superfractor entry even though the regular Shadow Etch row is blank. Topps odds, pages 1–3
Hammy's take
Hobby is our pick for 2026 Chrome MLS. Its two-autograph format retains the Messi and Beckham Renaissance chase and adds three exclusives that give this checklist its character: MLS Debut Patches, National Pairings Dual Autographs and Zlatan's G-8. Mania offers four encased autographs and its own autograph sets, but those three Hobby exclusives remain outside its checklist. For the new insert design, Rhythm of the Game is our highlight, with access through both Hobby and Value. Topps format guide, official checklist
September 11 update: Recorded the September 10 release and Topps Hobby sellout. August presale prices are retained as historical context; the checklist, odds and format comparison are unchanged.
