2026 Wild Card Matte Rookies: Mendoza, Love, Simpson and Yamal
A tightly focused four-player release with several very different parallel and insert families.
We update this release guide as verified product details develop.

2026 Wild Card Matte Rookies keeps its subject list unusually tight: Fernando Mendoza, Jeremiyah Love, Ty Simpson and Lamine Yamal. Three football players and one soccer player share a release organized around portraits, action poses and a broad range of background treatments.
Wild Card places Matte Rookies in its February 2026 release group. The small roster puts the emphasis on variations of those four subjects, including Base, Weekend Warrior, Xplode and Rookie Heat cards.
White space and an explosive alternative
The official Jeremiyah Love base autograph-design preview is restrained: a pale field, a full running pose and a large white signing area across the lower half. It gives Love’s green uniform room to stand out. The manufacturer preview shows the autograph layout with the signature area blank.
Fernando Mendoza’s Xplode preview takes a sharper route. Angled black, gray and green bands radiate around his passing pose, making the player part of a much more graphic composition. The difference between Base and Xplode is substantial enough to make the insert choice a design preference, even before a parallel color enters the picture.
Weekend Warrior and Rookie Heat
Weekend Warrior and Rookie Heat expand the release beyond the base and Xplode designs. Signed and unsigned versions appear in the manufacturer’s checklist, with numbering that varies by the exact background and color combination.
For example, the unsigned Weekend Warrior Black-subset ladder includes Orange /50, Gold /35, Green /25, Red /15, Platinum /10, Black /5, Blue /3 and one-of-one Purple. Rookie Heat uses a different distribution: in its Black subset, Orange reaches /75 while Black is 1/1. Those differences give each insert its own parallel map.
True Color Match branches
Base True Color Match uses City, State and Tie-Dye subsets on Rainbow foil. Weekend Warrior adds its own True Color Match series, while Xplode True Color Match Tie-Dye combines the angular design with another layer of color variation. The checklist identifies these as one-of-one cards, available in signed and unsigned forms.
Matte Rookies is most interesting as a focused player collection: Love’s quiet base composition, Mendoza’s Xplode design and the other insert families offer visibly different ways to collect a very small roster. The exact checklist separates those designs and their numbering, while Wild Card’s 2026 index places the release in February.
