2026–27 Donruss Basketball Hobby: Downtown Gets Company

Tyrese Maxey has the city. Tyran Stokes gets a painted portrait. Caleb Holt gets a wall of color. Donruss has three very different cards at the top of the chase.

We update this release guide as verified product details develop.

Tyrese Maxey, Tyran Stokes and Caleb Holt headline Panini’s short-print preview. Preview art: Panini America.

Tyrese Maxey rises over a cartoon Philadelphia skyline on Panini’s Downtown Gold Vinyl preview. The two cards beside it have their own ideas about what a big pull should look like. Tyran Stokes gets a face drawn in blue, red and gold. Caleb Holt is mostly black and white, with an orange ball and a burst of paint behind him. Presentations and Splash of Color are both new short-print chases in 2026–27 Panini Donruss Basketball Hobby.

Downtown has two new neighbors

The Panini Hobby sell sheet shows why all three designs can coexist. Maxey’s Downtown fills the scene with a bridge, buildings and a sandwich big enough to dunk over. Presentations Gold strips the scene down to Stokes’ face and hard blocks of color. On Splash of Color, Holt’s pose stays photographic while the background does the painting. Stokes is the one I’d reach for first: those sharp red shadows and the blue portrait still read clearly at thumbnail size.

Panini calls all three inserts super short prints. The sell sheet names the Maxey and Stokes previews as specific parallels, but it gives no separate pull rates for these chases. The pictures show what makes each insert recognizable; the Hobby box averages below tell you what to expect from the rest of the rip.

What’s in a Donruss Hobby box?

Hobby has 12 packs of eight cards, or 96 cards per box, and 16 boxes per case. Panini’s advertised box breakdown is:

Card typePer Hobby box on average
Autographs3
Donruss base parallels12
Base Optic cards or Optic parallels24
Inserts8
Base Elite card or parallel1

The 24 Optic cards are part of this Hobby box’s mix. That count includes regular Base Optic cards and parallels. Panini lists numbered Donruss base and Base Optic parallels at /225 or fewer and numbered Base Elite parallels at /99 or fewer. The single Elite slot can also be a regular Base Elite card.

Derrick Rose’s Base Black keeps the regular Donruss frame, with red and silver lines around the Chicago photo. The Base Elite Nebula preview lets the teal and magenta pattern spread almost to the edges behind Jordan Smith Jr. Panini gives the new Elite slot a separate look you can spot before you check the back for numbering.

Greetings From gives the city theme another home in the set. Cade Cunningham’s Galactic preview looks like a Detroit postcard, right down to the postmark and script lettering. It shares Downtown’s interest in place, with a design that would still be recognizable without the player photo. Panini also adds Now Playing to the insert lineup alongside Swish, Unleashed and Net Marvels.

Next Day ink and a two-signature Art card

Panini shows Yaxel Lendeborg in Next Day Autographs, with a clean white signing area below the blue and gold frame. Jayden Quaintance’s The Athletic Dept. preview goes nearly monochrome, which makes the blue signature jump off the lower half. Both are among the programs Panini identifies as on-card, along with Pen Pals and Art Signatures.

The Art Signatures Horizontal preview pairs Darius Acuff Jr. with Allen Iverson. The two white signing bands sweep in opposite directions, leaving each autograph its own space against the paint. That pairing is one of the more interesting ways Donruss uses the draft class and retired stars on the same card. Three autographs is the Hobby box average; Panini hasn’t given odds for this particular dual.

When does Donruss Basketball Hobby release?

Southern Hobby and Steel City Collectibles both list December 16, 2026 as the expected Hobby release. Panini lists Hobby as coming soon and hasn’t posted a direct sale time or price. The sell sheet shows the preview subjects; the full checklist will tell us which other players made it into Presentations, Splash of Color and the new Base Elite cards.
