2026 Donruss Optic NWSL: Rodman Downtown, Marta Ink and a Different View of Shaw

Trinity Rodman’s Downtown Optic No. 20 gives Washington Spirit collectors a card that knows where it belongs. Rodman stands in a brilliant yellow kit beside the Washington Monument, with a reflecting pool running toward the foreground and pink-orange trees lining the scene. The oversized DOWNTOWN lettering is filled with little window shapes. It is playful, immediately recognizable and unmistakably a Washington card.

That is a fine introduction to the NWSL’s first standalone Donruss Optic release. The set arrived on October 14, 2026, bringing Optic branding to a lineup that ranges from Marta’s autograph to Jaedyn Shaw in arrival-day clothes. The official previews shown here make those differences visible; this is a release with several distinct ways to collect the same player.

Rodman takes Downtown to Washington

The strongest part of Rodman’s Downtown design is the balance between the real player photograph and the illustrated city. Her yellow uniform remains the loudest color in the center, while the pale monument and turquoise water establish the setting. The pink cloud behind her softens what could otherwise have been a crowded skyline. The card celebrates the club’s home without reducing Rodman to a small cutout in a postcard.

The 20-card Downtown Optic checklist also includes Marta at No. 12, Shaw at No. 14, Temwa Chawinga at No. 15 and Riley Tiernan at No. 6. Rodman has Night Moves Optic No. 18 and Kismet Optic No. 7 as well. Those are separate insert cards, each in a 20-card family, rather than parallel colors of her Downtown.

Panini calls Downtown and Night Moves case hits and introduces Kismet as a new case-hit design. The manufacturer checklist does not assign those regular Optic entries a serial limit. Their attraction begins with the player and design; there is no published numbered edition to attach to Rodman’s regular Downtown.

Marta gives The Beautiful Game a signature centerpiece

Marta’s The Beautiful Game Autographs Optic No. 23 gives her photograph and signature different spaces. The action image fills the upper portion, with Orlando’s purple carried into the frame and nameplate. Below it, the blue autograph stretches across a large pale panel. The heavy insert title separates the two without hiding the signature.

The gold-colored border in Panini’s preview works especially well against the purple kit. Even with a large logo, a full player photograph and a substantial autograph area, the composition stays readable. This is a card built to make Marta’s signature the second thing you see after Marta herself.

Her regular Optic autograph is /125. Its parallels are Red /75, Blue /25, Gold /10, Green /5 and Black 1/1. Those are Marta’s exact limits: the same Gold autograph family puts Barbra Banda’s No. 35 at /5. The color name does not establish one universal print run across the autograph checklist.

Chawinga anchors the regular cards

Chawinga’s Base Optic No. 23 is a useful reminder that this release has appealing cards below the headline inserts. Her vivid green Kansas City kit occupies most of the photograph. Red framing and teal diagonal accents connect the portrait to the club crest and nameplate, while the purple background in this preview adds contrast without swallowing the player.

The final checklist contains 200 Base Optic cards, numbered 1–200, plus a separate 50-card Rated Rookies Optic run, numbered 1–50. Rodman is Base Optic No. 18, Marta is No. 75 and Shaw is No. 124. The Rated Rookies include Chicago’s Elise Evans at No. 1, Kansas City’s Laney Rouse at No. 2 and San Diego Wave’s Lia Godfrey at No. 19.

For both regular base and Rated Rookies, the numbered Optic parallels include Blue Velocity /149, Orange Pandora /49, Purple Pulsar /25 and Black 1/1. The Pink Shimmer FOTL /3 is the separately named First Off The Line parallel. Paper Donruss uses other parallel families in the shared checklist, so its Gold Laser and Lava entries should not be folded into this Optic lineup.

Riley Tiernan gets two moments in Pitch Queens

Pitch Queens Optic No. 16 uses two Tiernan photographs for different purposes. The larger image catches her smiling and looking away from play; the smaller one shows her working with the ball. Angel City’s black kit and pink details hold the two images together against an exuberant background of paint-like streaks, splashes and drips.

The two-photo approach gives the card personality as well as action. The club crest sits between the figures, while a broad title ribbon anchors the bottom. It is much busier than Chawinga’s base design, but Tiernan’s dark kit supplies enough contrast to keep both photographs distinct.

Pitch Queens Optic has 25 cards, including Rodman No. 5, Godfrey No. 12, Marta No. 13 and Chawinga No. 18. Its numbered parallels follow Purple /99, Tie-Dye /25, Gold /10 and Black 1/1. Tiernan also has a separate Signature Series Optic No. 8 /125, giving an Angel City collection a signature-led option alongside the colorful unsigned insert.

Jaedyn Shaw changes the subject in Tunnel Vision

Shaw’s Tunnel Vision Optic No. 5 trades the match photograph for an off-field portrait: cap worn backward, dark glasses, a light cropped jacket, pleated skirt and shoulder bag. A smaller inset repeats her smiling face with a layered color effect. Gotham’s crest is placed prominently below, keeping the club connection even though she is not wearing its kit.

This is the most different of the five featured designs. The other cards emphasize playing, signing or a club’s city; Shaw’s offers a glimpse of personal style. The curved green-and-purple frame and radiating background give the arrival photograph the same visual energy that Optic applies to an action shot.

The regular Tunnel Vision Optic checklist has ten cards. It includes Marta No. 2, Chawinga No. 4, Jaelin Howell No. 8 and Rodman No. 10. Like Pitch Queens, its numbered versions are Purple /99, Tie-Dye /25, Gold /10 and Black 1/1. Shaw also has Base Optic, Downtown, Night Moves and Kismet cards, but this one offers the clearest change of subject.

What Hobby and First Off The Line contain

A Hobby box contains 16 five-card packs. Panini’s box averages are three autograph or memorabilia cards, 16 inserts, four numbered parallels, 12 additional parallels and 16 Rated Rookies. The three-hit average combines autographs and memorabilia.

Panini’s format comparison gives First Off The Line the same listed averages plus one bonus FOTL-exclusive parallel. The checklist’s Pink Shimmer FOTL /3 appears across both the 200-card regular base and the 50 Rated Rookies. That provides a specific extra chase without changing which players and insert designs give the release its appeal.

Rodman’s illustrated Washington, Marta’s purple-and-gold autograph presentation, Tiernan’s two-photo celebration and Shaw’s arrival portrait are four very different reasons to enjoy this debut. Chawinga’s base design belongs in that conversation too: the frame makes excellent use of Kansas City’s colors. Optic gives the league a recognizable house style while leaving room for the athletes and clubs to look like themselves.
